Practice Policies
Office Hours
By appointment only.
Emergencies
In a medical or psychiatric emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room. Do not call, text message, or send electronic communication during an emergency situation.
Insurance
The goal at Emi Psychiatry is to provide high quality personalized care without treatment being dictated by insurance companies or administrators. Therefore, the practice is out-of-network with all insurances and the patient is personally responsible for the full cost of treatment.
Health insurance companies may reimburse a portion of fees paid by patients to “out-of-network” providers depending on the plan. Emi Psychiatry provides a detailed statement called a “superbill” documenting services, diagnostic codes, and payments. This documentation can be submitted by the patient to their insurance company for consideration for reimbursement.
Typical Course of Treatment
At the end of the initial evaluation (typically 60 minutes in duration), the patient and Dr. Gilman will decide whether to proceed with a course of treatment. Mental health treatment involves regularly scheduled follow up appointments that are typically 20 to 30 minutes long. Initially appointments will be more frequent, typically every four weeks. When clinically indicated, appointments may be spaced out to occur every 1-3 months.
No Show/Cancellation Policy
The no show/late cancellation fee is equal to the full session fee and is not typically reimbursed by insurance. Patients must give at least 24 hours notice when canceling or rescheduling appointments to avoid being responsible for this fee.
Communication Between Sessions
Dr. Gilman does not charge for brief contact (<10 minutes) outside of scheduled appointments as to not discourage seeking help when necessary. However, please respectfully limit contact to non-sensitive and non-urgent issues. Please do not use text messaging, e-mail, or patient portal communication to initiate discussion about medication adjustments.
Medication Refills
Prescriptions will be electronically sent during appointments. Patients must be seen regularly to provide medications, review changes, and monitor for side effects. If an appointment is missed and prescriptions are requested, Dr. Gilman will send the prescription to the pharmacy for a maximum of 2 weeks, during which time an appointment must be scheduled. Similarly, prescriptions will not be refilled for patients who have not been seen within the last 90 days and an appointment will be required for any refills. To avoid delays or lapses in medication adherence, patients must keep their appointments as scheduled and contact the office at least 3 business days prior to running out of medication.
Practice Limitations
Please be aware that Dr. Gilman may not be able to serve the needs of patients requiring a higher level of care, more intensive services, case management, or after-hours access. Additionally, no urgent, after-hours, or emergency services are available. Additionally, Dr. Gilman does not:
